The recent WannaCry cyberattack is the largest online extortion scam the Internet has ever had. It’s just like a Hollywood disaster movie – a hacking group stole cyber weapons from the government, and the global networks had gone paralyzed overnight. The victims include U.K.’s National Health Service (NHS), Russia’s interior ministry, Chinese educational institutes, Germany’s state railways, and the number of victims is still increasing.

WannaCry cyberattack is just a beginning. More hacking tools released

While security experts have been trying to put an end to this ransomware epidemic, worse news has arrived. Shadow Brokers, the hacker group who stole the NSA cyber arsenals, has declared to have more hacking weapons in stock and will release them in June.

Shadow Brokers also claimed that these fresh hacking tools and exploits can be applied to new operating systems and software. That means once these hacking programs are published, Windows 10 devices which are now immune to the previous attack will become the target. These new hacking tools also aim at vulnerabilities found on phones, routers and web browsers.

New business model – The Shadow Brokers’ Monthly Data Dump

The WannaCry attack sparks scare worldwide. However, this disaster turns out to be the best promotion for the Shadow Brokers to sell the backstage hacking tools.

In an announcement made by this hacker group they planned to launch their subscription service named “Shadow Brokers Data Dump of the Month.”

By paying the membership fee, subscribers are able to receive an exclusive data dump every month. According to the hackers’ syndicate, The Shadow Brokers Monthly Data Dump may include:
– Web browser, router, handset exploits and tools
– Selected items from newer OS Disks, including newer exploits for Windows 10
– Compromised network data from more SWIFT providers and Central banks
– Compromised network data from Russian, Chinese, Iranian, or North Korean nukes and missile programs

And more details will be revealed in June.

The EternalBlue exploit used by the WannaCry attack is just a small part of the stolen NSA cyber weapons. Imagine what would happen if all the remaining NSA cyber-war tools are leaked?

Before the next wave comes, users should always update their Windows systems to the latest version to stay protected from the ongoing cyberattacks.
